Air Liquide Launches Its "BEYOND" Strategic Plan Through 2030
Air Liquide has launched its new BEYOND strategic plan for 2026–2030, setting ambitious financial, operational, investment, and sustainability objectives for the next phase of its growth.
The plan targets 10% annual growth in recurring net earnings per share, plus or minus 2 percentage points, alongside recurring ROCE above 11% by 2030. Air Liquide also plans more than €40 billion in capital allocation during the period, including approximately €24 billion of industrial investment decisions.
At the same time, the company is maintaining its environmental agenda, targeting a 33% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions by 2035 compared with 2020.
What BEYOND Signals
BEYOND represents a shift from Air Liquide's completed ADVANCE strategy toward a new period focused on profitable growth, operational efficiency, and investment in structurally attractive markets.
The company has identified four strategic growth areas:
Electronics and AI
Energy transition
Healthcare
Space
These markets are expected to benefit from long-term structural trends including semiconductor expansion, industrial decarbonization, healthcare demand, and advanced technology development.
Growth and Margin Ambitions
Air Liquide expects sales to grow at a compound annual rate of approximately 5%, plus or minus 1 percentage point, between 2026 and 2030.
The company also plans to improve its operating margin by 400–600 basis points over the period.
This combination of sales growth and margin expansion is intended to support the group's recurring EPS objective.
For procurement and industrial customers, the emphasis on efficiency could translate into greater attention to standardized processes, centralized procurement, operational productivity, and technology-enabled cost management.
More Than €40 Billion of Capital Allocation
Capital deployment is a central component of BEYOND.
Air Liquide plans more than €40 billion of capital allocation between 2026 and 2030, covering industrial investments, acquisitions, dividends, and share buybacks.
Approximately €24 billion of industrial investment decisions are planned during the period, with particular emphasis on projects supported by long-term customer contracts.
The company is therefore linking growth investment with demand visibility, potentially reducing the risk associated with building capacity ahead of customer commitments.
Electronics and AI Become Major Growth Engines
Semiconductors and AI infrastructure are among the most important growth opportunities identified under BEYOND.
Air Liquide expects its Electronics business to achieve sales growth of more than 10% annually between 2026 and 2030.
Demand is being supported by larger semiconductor fabs, increasingly sophisticated chip manufacturing requirements, and government policies encouraging domestic semiconductor production.
For industrial-gas suppliers, this creates opportunities across ultra-high-purity gases, advanced materials, and specialized solutions used in semiconductor manufacturing.
ESG Remains Embedded in the Strategy
BEYOND does not separate financial performance from environmental objectives.
Air Liquide is maintaining its target of reducing Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions by 33% by 2035 compared with 2020, while continuing to pursue carbon neutrality by 2050.
The company is also introducing a target to reduce water withdrawals by 10% by 2030 compared with 2025.
This indicates that environmental performance remains part of the company's broader capital and operating strategy rather than being treated solely as a reporting requirement.
Procurement and Operational Efficiency
One of the more significant operational elements of BEYOND is increased emphasis on procurement and process efficiency.
Air Liquide plans to:
Standardize global processes
Expand Global Business Services
Centralize procurement
Improve local operational efficiency
Accelerate AI adoption
Streamline organizational structures
For suppliers, greater procurement centralization can mean changes in purchasing structures, supplier qualification, contract negotiations, and regional sourcing decisions.

Competitive Intelligence
BEYOND provides several indicators for companies monitoring Air Liquide and the industrial-gases sector.
Capital Investment
The planned €24 billion of industrial investment decisions provides visibility into where Air Liquide expects future demand and capacity requirements.
Electronics Exposure
The company's focus on semiconductors and AI highlights the growing importance of electronics-related industrial-gas demand.
Energy Transition
Hydrogen, decarbonization, and other transition technologies remain important strategic markets.
Operational Efficiency
Centralized procurement and AI deployment could change supplier requirements and operating models.
ESG Performance
CO₂ and water targets create additional requirements for operational efficiency and environmental performance.
Procurement Considerations
Suppliers working with Air Liquide or similar industrial-gas companies should monitor how BEYOND affects procurement structures.
Important areas include:
Supplier consolidation
Global procurement standards
Cost competitiveness
Environmental performance
Contract duration
Regional manufacturing capabilities
Technical qualification
Supply reliability
Carbon and water reporting
Long-term industrial projects backed by customer contracts may also create opportunities for suppliers capable of supporting new capacity reliably over multiple years.
Looking Ahead
Air Liquide's BEYOND strategy demonstrates how major industrial companies are increasingly combining financial growth targets, capital allocation, operational efficiency, and ESG performance within a single strategic framework.
The plan's focus on electronics, AI, healthcare, energy transition, and space also shows how industrial-gas demand is becoming increasingly connected to high-growth technology and infrastructure markets.
For suppliers and procurement teams, the most important takeaway is that future competitiveness will depend not only on price and supply reliability, but also on the ability to meet increasingly demanding requirements around efficiency, technology, sustainability, and long-term project execution.
